John has signed up for his next iron distance triathlon at Ironman Western Australia in Busselton on December 3, 2023. His training in the past weeks has been very consistent which is one of the most important things in ironman training. It is not about the big “monster sessions” that you occasionally throw in – it is more about the routine to train almost every day.

After his last long distance triathlon at Ironman Philippines in Subic on June 11 this year, it will be his 5th iron distance triathlon, and he is aiming for a new personal best. Ideally, the finish time would be around 10:30 hours – but anything sub 11 hours would still be a great achievement.

Triathlon training: build phase has started!

After about 10 weeks of base training, John has started the build phase where more intense training sessions are included in his plan like intervals and longer runs & bike rides in race pace. At the same time, the strength and mobility training sessions are super important to further support recovery and prevent injuries.

John is going to travel to Western Australia around end of November to have a few days of “acclimatisation” in this area, find out more about the swim, bike, and run courses, and get a few days of good rest and sleep before racing once again “down under”. This will be his 34th triathlon while he has already some more races planned in 2024 – so stay tuned!
