I had the vision to be represented with our own team at the biggest triathlon in the country for a long time – probably since 2013. I had first heard about Ironman 70.3 Philippines back in 2012, when I was about to do my very first Olympic distance triathlon. Little did I know that it would take almost four more years for me to join this race…
Ironman 70.3 Philippines (Asia-Pacific Championship) 2016
…and this is already almost eight years ago now! The triathlon in Cebu was the biggest triathlon in Asia at that time, and some VIPs like actors and formula 1 pilot Jenson Button were regulars at the event, hosted by Shangri-La’s. I was able to join again a year later in August 2017, hoping to finish stronger but in fact, I was even slower and ended up in the medical tent for a couple of hours.
I was experiencing the worst cramps in my whole life. Ever since, I was of the believe that the race in Cebu is one of the toughest, if not the most difficult, 70.3 triathlon in the whole world. The more am I proud that we will be represented with our own team on April 21, 2024.
Mel, Shirna & Devie
This time, like at Dipolog Triathlon 2023, team Kapwa will be represented by Mel, Shirna and Devie. Mel is our team captain who is going to swim the 1,9 kms. Shirna will cycle 90 kms on her “new” bike, and Devie will run the 21,1 km after successfully finishing yet another long run last January.
[update on 25 April 2024]
Team Kapwa has succesfully finished the Ironman 70.3 Lapu-Lapu, Cebu – find Devie’s race report below:
I was excited…
